0-4 or 4-4, don't let it change you.

Going 0 for 4 doesn't make you less of a player, or less of a person.

It makes you 0 for 4.

That's it.

The stat sheet is the last thing you control and the first thing you let ruin your day.

Four perfect at-bats can go 0 for 4. Four ugly swings can go 4 for 4.

That's baseball. It's not going to be fair.

So own the stuff that's actually yours.

  • Sticking to your plan.
  • Good swing decisions.
  • On time with the load and the swing.

Do those three every at-bat and the results tend to take care of themselves. Maybe not tonight. Over a season, every time.

(And yeah, mechanics still matter. They just can't save a late load or a bad decision.)

When I'm training hitters, I'm always calculating one thing in my head. What's the simplest adjustment that will make the biggest impact? I tell hitters that when I'm staring into space, I'm computing.. haha. "If I say this, he'll do this." "I can't say this because he doesn't like it, or it didn't work for him." "If I say this, he'll overthink it, so I have to work around that idea." I do the calculating so you don't have to. To a certain extent though, right? There's a time and place for...

Pete Crow-Armstrong said something that should make a lot of hitters think.. In an interview weeks ago, he admitted it. Any time he struggled, he’d try to hit more. More cage time. More swings. More effort. HARDER. MORE. Now he’s trying to do less. Calm. Routine. Process. That’s the part most hitters will scroll past. Because it sounds backwards. But it’s the exact thing I’ve watched with my own guys for years. The hardest workers don’t always get the best results. Sometimes the guy who seems...
